The collaborator Dr.El Fakhri is the Nathaniel&Diana Alpert Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. He is Co-Director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging and founding Director of the Gordon Center for Medical Imaging(GCMI)at MGH.Dr El Fakhri is a recognized expert in SPECT,PET-CT,and PET-MR.He has pioneered approaches to compensate for many of the physical factors(e.g.,scatter,attenuation,motion,PSF)affecting quantitative imaging using artificial neural networks(AI)and analytical approaches and objectively assessing the improvement in image quality, specifically in oncologic, neurologic and cardiac imaging. He also pioneered novel approaches to kinetic modeling and parametric imaging in cardiac perfusion and neuroreceptor imaging.Dr El Fakhri’s Lab has demonstrated the feasibility of simultaneous PET/MR and PET/fMRI for mapping neurotransmission in the brain, measuring membrane potential with PET,as well as direct estimation of kinetic parameters. He has pioneered motion compensation(including reconstruction and registration)and MR anatomical priors in PET/MR as well as a unified framework for pharmacokinetics of PET and MR when acquired simultaneously. His work has resulted in over 250 peer reviewed papers.Thedetails of the publications can be viewed at
